Why do some vegetarians drink milk and eat eggs?

The way they keep the cows for milking isn't good by any means and the way chickens are kept for laying eggs is pretty bad.

  1. because they're not vegans.

  2. Well, it depends why the person is vegetarian. If they're doing it for animal rights reasons, then they should know that they are still contributing to animal suffering. But if they're vegetarian for health (like me), religious, personal, or other reasons, it may not be much of an issue for them. It all depends on their motivations for being vegetarian.

  3. Because vegetarians eat anything but meat, VEGANS stay off dairy as well and anything that comes from an animal.

  4. A lot of vegetarians usually ease into being veg@n. It is easier then just going straight into veg@nism. Atleast they're helping animals.

  5. Some vegetarians are not aware of the cruelty, or they aren't able to make the lifestyle change to being vegan. Also, some vegetarians get their milk and eggs from organic, free-range farms that aren't cruel to the animals. Also, not everyone who is vegetarian is doing it for the animals. They could be doing it for their health, so they don't find it necessary to change their diet to completely omit animal products if they're only doing it to better their health. Though the way the animals are treated in the factory farms is cruel, not everyone realizes that or even cares about it. I'm a vegan, and I'm vegan for the animals, but not everyone feels the same way.

  6. Actually *most* vegetarians eat eggs and dairy.

You can't sit there and post this question and think you are doing something positive. It looks like you are attempting to sow guilt and you are just going to reap resentment.

You can feel free to post videos of factory farms to reach those that are unaware, even if it is a violation but the tone of your "question" is unacceptable and does not suit any goal.

You should be asking if people are aware of what animals fo through for conventional egg and dairy production, not questioning people's decisions.

  7. They do suffer, I won't argue that. It depends on peoples preferences. They only eggs I eat are from my own chickens! And trust me, they're treated VERY well.

  8. They use all sorts of excuses why some forms of cruelty is alright, but others are not.

They use the "free range" excuse, which is just a load of bull.

That's why I am vegan because I can't support any type of cruelty.

  9. "Vegetarian" is just a description of a person who does not eat meat period. It does not imply anything about a person beyond that.

Why people become vegetarians vary from individual to idividual. If you think you should not eat dairy products or eggs because of your own personal reasons, then don't. You have the right to do that. But remember that those are your reasons and not everybody shares them.

  10. well yeah but its peoples choices and there lives

i know what you mean that's why now I'm trying to become vegan because i really am trying to be a environmentalist and animal activist and join groups like wwf and sierra club so i wised up and saw there was still cruelty going on let alone its not necessary to consume any products from any animals what so ever but again everyone is different and entitled to there own beliefs

  11. because the animals don't have to die for us to get eggs and dairy.
