Question:

Why do some vegetarians eat fish but not meat?

In my view it is worse eating fish than meat in terms of bio-waste, over-fishing and the destruction of nature marine habitat. Take prawn for example, they kill 15 kilos of unwanted marine product for 1 kilo of prawns, coral reefs are being destroyed because of fishing nets, dynamite and poison. Cod and yellow finned tuna are thinning and close to disappearing, coral over 700 years old are being destroyed... etc

  1. i am a vegetarian, and i dont eat fish. a REAL veg. doesnt eat anything with a face. yes, fishing does do more to kill the enviornment. but it is still an animal

  2. because fish doesn't have the saturated fat of other meats

  3. Some don't eat red meat for health reasons.

  4. i have no clue.

  5. vegetarians, same as some religious people, have eliminated meat from their diets, but are then lacking protein.

fish is a good compromise, i think, between meat from animals that are slaughtered and a complete lack of meat.

though fish are still animals, they aren't treated as poorly as cattle, pigs, etc.

there is also less risk involved with eating fish. some slaughter houses aren't the cleanest and can produce diseased meat.

the risk is still there with fish, of course, but it's much much smaller.

  6. Don't care had fresh squirrel lat night! It was good. I'm saving the plant. Good for me!

  7. a fish suffers the same as a cow, cat or cockroach..

all animals value their lives as much as you value yours..

I am not a vegetarian.. I do try to eat less meat and select meat raised less cruelly if possible (had my own chickens for free range eggs)

  8. "vegetarians" that eat fish are not vegetarians. Fish is not a vegetable after all.

    Viva Vegetarianism!

  9. idk

  10. I don't get it either.  Fish are animals.  They have meat on their bones and they have brains.  I think some vegetarians just don't eat land animals and just label themselves incorrectly.

  11. The raising of farm animals also hurts the environment

I am a vegeterian and i dont eat ANY type of meat. People that eat fish are NOT  vegetarian they re pescetarian. Honestly, it is quite weird to go around calling yourself pescetarian so they just say they are vegetarian, but they arent.

Some ppl dont have a problem with eating animal and stopped because of the cruelty to animals and they think that fish suffer way less than farm animals who suffer all of their lives and often have a slow an painful death.

I think fish suffer too and i dont eat them and yes, they are "real meat" it is flesh.

My spanish teacher whom is from chile was teaching us about the explitation of their natural resorces. How they are over fishing. And then she proceeded to reccomend only eating wild caught fish instead of farm raised fish because they were "healthier" and had "better taste". She baffled my mind, i couldnt believe that after teaching us of all the horrible things that are happening to the environment, she encourages us to support the "over exploitation". Who understands her.

  12. because meat is polluting the planet somehow.

  13. Vegetarians do not eat fish.

  14. I agree with you on this critical objective.

Fish are definitely living animals that by eating them is just as bad as eating any other meat.

  15. Its not about the environment, its that they do not believe fish are animals and that its ok to eat fish just not "animals"

  16. that is a bit of an oxymoron, aint it??? hmmmmmmm here's something to think about, Fruit and Vegetables they grow, meaning the are living entities somewhat..i mean nothing inanimate or dead grows........so in essence you are still killing something living to survive....me i had some Boars Head honey turkey with melted provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and salt and pepper and oil and vinegar on a hero..i could never go vegan...flesh taste sooooooooooo good... as long as it aint human..sorry pookie from down the street doesnt look appetizing even with relish smeared all over...now ladies......i aint even gotta tell ya....let's just say i'm L*****n approved......as for the coral reef and our natural eco-system....it's just sad that humans have a genetic flaw that causes self destruction of anything and everything that is sacred and precious...pray not only for man but for our planet also........

  17. I guess they think that fish don't qualify as 'real' animals. I am a vegetarian, and I don't eat either fish or the rest of the animal kingdom. I don't even eat marshmallows because of the gelatin. To me, if a person eats fish, they aren't really a 'vegetarian'; they are just an omnivore that doesn't eat mammals or poultry.
