Why do (some) women say "nothing" when you ask them what's wrong?

either they dont want to talk about it, they want you to beg them to tell you, or they dont want to start a fight...

I've met just as many men who'll say the same thing. I realized that some people really don't know what's wrong-they have zero self-awareness. Most of the others who say this are passive-aggressive as all get out-run don't walk away from them too!

When we do try to tell you what's wrong, we get called too emotional and crying all the time.  I don't think you want to listen.

It could be that the woman is absolutely ropable and upset and just does not want to talk about it at the current time for fear of saying something they may regret.

Ignoring the woman only makes things worse.  Better to let her know that she can let you know/talk about it when she's ready and then get on with normal stuff.

I don't know, but I have always done this.  However, these days I am not allowed to get away with it, if my husband thinks I'm upset about something he will insist on me telling him what it is and won't accept 'nothing' as an answer.

I know that I often say "nothing" or even worse..... "never mind".

I just don't want to be a bothersome or a nuisance but people usually are more annoyed or bothered by these comments.

I guess I'm just a pain in the @ss. lol

I m not sure because I always let someone know if they are shitting me. My mum does it sometimes and then she says she doesn't want to talk because she is stressed? I don't know I m trying to elaborate............. I am always out with it; but that gets me into a lot of trouble usually so maybe that's why they don't talk because they think they are going to get in trouble? Sorry that was p**s weak I have no idea. I'll star you instead so other people can answer.

Probably the same reasons men say 'nothing' when there is obviously something wrong. They don't want to complain, they don't want to bother their partners, they can deal with the problem on their own etc.

First men complain about women talking too much and then they complain about women NOT talking. Well, which would you prefer?

they probably did tell you and really don't feel like the hassle of telling you again and you dragging it out instead of just listening when all that's really wanted is comfort, not to have to offer a lengthy explanation of yourself

That is a sure sign of an immature little girl trying to play games with your head. Girls in HIGH SCHOOL act this way. Not adult women with intelligence.
