I mean to the point where it's not only noticeable but it smears all over her face. No offense to any ladies here who may wear a lot of makeup, but guys tend to be driven off when they see a woman who has 2 inches of foundation on her face. Ugh.

  1. trying to hide flaws or look better...especially people with low self esteem

  2. Probably because they're insecure. They feel prettier with a lot of makeup on. Or they're trying to hide flaws they think they might have. Not really sure. I try not to wear too much makeup.

  3. I agree=) I think it makes your face look dirty thats why i don't wear it but i don't know why most women wear it when they don't even need it

  4. If you watch the shopping channels on TV, you'll see makeup demonstrations with before and after pictures that promise miracles with foundation.

Wearing makeup isn't always about attracting guys - sometimes wearing makeup is like hiding behind sunglasses; it's like a disguise.

Women sometimes get criticised for letting themselves go and not making an effort too, so even if the makeup doesn't do much for them they wear it anyway to show they still care.

  5. I never wear make up, a little bit is ok, but too much is unattractive.

  6. So that they cant be easily identified in a lineup!

  7. I think it's a mask. A way to "hide" their insecurities. I don't care how hideous you think you are, no one is ugly enough to need 6 lbs of makeup.

Most guys I know would prefer a woman to wear less make up like the above picture.

But sadly too many women look like this...

  8. They've never heard of "less is more".

  9. Same reason men do that weird unnatural thing every day of shaving their faces to have faces like women or why they cut their hair, because we all have social norms to live within.  AND, make-up can be quite a healthy artistic form of expression.  For many women, gobs of make-up also could indicate low-self esteem or poor body image and they try to use make-up to cover perceived flaws or to force their faces to appear more like the stereotype "beautiful" face rules.  At my age, make-up is mostly an assortment of thick putty.  : )  I wish YA had a make-up option menu for our avatars.  I hate my avatar not having lipstick on.  That's the only make-up I wear.

  10. I'm with Stepford - some women have really bad acne and a thick layer of foundation is the only way they can feel like they look acceptable.  Even if they don't look that bad to us, it makes them feel better - either that or no one ever taught them how to apply it properly.

  11. I completely agree :-) Some women look like men in drag when they wear so much.

  12. I agree.  I don't wear foundation or powder.(face make-up.)  Tends to make me look fake.  Really fake.  Like a doll.

There are many reasons that a woman might wear make-up. First they are hiding acne scars or skin discolorations.

Also, many girls and women believe that wearing a full face of make-up is an integral part of dressing up.  To them it is as fundamental as pantyhose (which I also don't wear.).

I remember arguing with a friend of mine, who wanted me to "dress-up" more, and put on some foundation and powder.  She said..."You're face is shiny!"  I said, "I know and I don't care."  But that would be the third reason --- to avoid the horrible shiny face.  Nooooooo we don't want that!

  13. Three reasons:

    1)She either has bad acne

    2)Low Self-esteem

3)Doesn't know it looks caked on

For me, less is best. I only put foundation on around my nose and under my eyes. That's not saying that I haven't caked it on before....I think that every young girl does it at one time or the other. Makeup takes practice....it is an art!

  14. I think this derives from self esteem issues or women who just aren't happy with their own looks.

  15. exactly! i don't wear make-up often, but when i do it's tinted moisturizer, and some eye make-up. some women are afraid of how they look without it and some are trying to cover up flaws, but are only making them worse! my skin is pretty clear and very soft; that's because i don't cake on the make-up.

  16. Obviously they have confidence issues and problems with their self-esteem.

  17. I don't know. I have an aunt that does that. You can see the foundation lines and she's drawn her eyebrows in and the lip liner without lipstick! UGH!

    It's awful.

  18. a lot of women just don't  know how to apply it correctly
