  1. It depends if i crime has been committed, say if someone rings an ambulance because someone was stabbed.

Even if the caller dose not ask for one the person taking the call at the call centre they nay send one if i crime has been committed or also if the paramedics attending a call may be at risk (if there is someone with weapon)

    hope this helps

  2. They are there to provide assistance with crowd control & traffic direction.  you'd be amazed at how many zanies want to be up close & personal at an accident/injury scene.  Often close enough to preclude the medics from doing their job.  Now & then they have to provide protection for the medics from the patient or family.

  3. in case some one gets hurt

  4. They need to gather relevant information and store it in their Offices . The first place people turn to when someone has gone missing is The Police .  Next is to render assistance to the Paramedics to do their Job focused on the Patient.Lastly to assist in gathering information from those who might have witnessed the incidents leading up to the Patients mishap.

  5. when someone's safety is in danger

  6. every deputy at my department is also the coroner.  so we go to medical calls in case it turns in to a death.  on some calls, the ambulance will request us to go and they will stage until we give them the okay to come in when it is safe, such as domestics and suicidal subjects.

  7. cu someone who called the cops could be hurt and they need an ambulance

  8. certain types of calls will require a response from both. Also some addresses will have whats called an "alert"placed on them, because residents were hostile to medical people in the past or for various other reasons. A squad will always be sent to these addresses.

  9. domestic violence or suicide

thank you Michael G- don't know why  I get so many negatives from these dimwits

  10. people call the cops when there is trouble. and when there is trouble someone could b hurt so thats why ambulances come :)

  11. Maybe to find the person who has just bludgeoned the other person to death!

  12. To protect the victems from crowds, etc.

  13. it's usually ambulance that show up with the police car just in case anyone gets hurt

  14. Two reasons.

Firtst the type of injury reported may suggest a criminal act.

Secondly, in some areas people attack or try to steal from ambulances, so the police presence prevents this.

  15. It depends on the situation.  Sometimes police will show up if they expect foul play, suicide, domestic violence, or car wrecks.

For each of those instances a police officer has to give a written report that can be used against people during court.

  16. A 911 call in general brings sevearl emergency respose vehicles.  It is normal for the police to dispatch with an ambullance to aid in crowd control or to help with possibly difficult patients.  Police will arrive with an ambulance for instance when the patient is a psychiatric one.

  17. They go to calls where someone has been assaulted or used a weapon of sort to ensure that the scene is safe for the ambulance personnel. They go to car accidents for the same reason.

  18. If theres a chance someones been hurt, or likely to get hurt, like if you rang them because theres been a fight, then they will come too usually

  19. To direct traffic when it all stops to look at the blood & gore,

also, when the police arrives first, it can administer some basic first aid too, like pulling some idiot's head out of a bucket of water & that kind of stuff - and thirdly, they help with sorting out the inevitable resulting blame-game legal proceedings matter

  20. Because paramedics request our appearance.

Often when a medical call is dispatched, not all the relevant information is available. There is often the chance that the "patient" my act aggressively, or be the offender or victim of a crime.

  21. My officers are required to respond to all medical calls within our jurisdiction for several reasons.  The main reason is that we are already mobile and the ambulance is coming from a shed that is 7 miles away.  We can get there first.  Officers are trained in life saving techniques that may save a persons life before the medical team gets there.  If the person is OK, the the officer will have his car outside the residence or business with the emergency lights activated.  This way the ambulance does not have to hunt for numbers on the side of the building.  In some cases, depending on the situation, medical teams will not enter into a building unless it has been cleared or made safe by police officers.  Police officers also assist in carrying stretchers and equipment into and out of the building.  In short - we are there to help.

  22. They figure they might be needed!!!

When an ambulance is called, the operator finds out why it is needed. If the reasons sound like a crime has been committed (eg person has stab wounds) or might be commited (eg person was injured by others who are still there) the police get called as well. This way they can immediately secure the crime scene, or keep order among other persons at the scene.

I once witnessed an ambulance following a line of police cars involved in a high-speed chase - they knew they were going to be needed. (Of course they were called, they don't just tag along by themselves).
