i just connected my car speakers to a new amp. i am running the speakers to an mtx amp. however, when i connected them, they give off a high pitch squeaking noise. why is this. is it because the amp is to powerful for the speakers?

  1. You have a ground loop. Make sure your ground at the amp is very tight, and to bare metal surface, use sandpaper if it is painted. Also if you have an after market head unit, move the ground directly to bare metal like the amp, not to the factory harness.

  2. Check the gain controls of the input and output and recheck the wiring.

  3. I don't know too much about car audio, but that sounds like instability in the amplifier. Check that the amp case is well grounded to the car chassis, that you don't have any inputs floating, ie. not connected, the amp input leads are screened cable with the screen properly connected, and the speaker leads are not running next to the input leads.

    Edit:

One more thing - check you have nice thick power cables to the amp with good sound connections.

  4. need more information did it do it for just a second or does it just continually do it? if you turn the volume up or down does the squeak get louder and quieter?
