  1. Because they are very, very far away.  The 'star' shape comes from the light of the star being refracted in our atmosphere.

  2. Because star was many light years away from the earth...The nearest star light reaches the earth 4 years after it emitted from it,hence you are seeing the past thing of the star when you are seeing the star it may not be in that place were you are seeing it may shifted to anyother place, the scattering of light results you in seeing the star shaped glittering light...i think you got the right answer..!

  3. ?

  4. You're referring to diffraction spikes, I think.

  5. atmostphere distortion.

  6. If it weren't for our atmosphere all stars would just look like a point of light, however our atmosphere blurs stars so that they look a little fuzzy.

The effect that makes stars look like it does in this picture --http://www.williamsclass.com/EighthScien...

is actually caused by the telescope that took the image of the star

  7. okay lets play examples.

well, you now how if you take one of those small little lights and slash it in a dark room?

like those little bitty ones like you put on your keychain?

well standing at a lil distance away you see beems of light and just like looking straight at it there beems... and just like looking at it from anangle there are beems...

so all around the light there are beems cicle is a flash light..lines are the beems add

lines between thise and it kinda looks like a star right?
