  1. They sometimes use 8 and 9 to indicate sale and regular prices. It is also a trick to make things seem to be a dollar cheaper.

  2. Would you pay....9.99 or 10.00? Its just an age old price war trick. It's not called JC Pennys for nothing.....lol

    I don't think thats true but big companies try to stretch prices so much......they should take dollars off.

  3. When I worked in retail we would use it to differentiate between items that were still in production and regularly priced. Prices would end with 98 if they were discontinued but still regularly priced or sale priced and prices that ended with 97 were on clearance. Every store may be different though. This was only how mine worked.
