  1. It's mostly a gimic to get you into the store. You're more likely to enter a store that you feel is warm right away rather than a store that is freezing cold near the enternce. They do the same thing with air conditioners during the summer for the similar reason. Most stores that put heaters in the enterence, dont put them towards the back of the store. So even if it seems wrong to the enviornment, the amount of energy they consume is fairly proportional.

  2. Two fold effect...the hot air prevents cold air from rushing into the store, and it actually helps save energy.

It also gets people to remove their coats, and there-by making it harder for them to shoplift.  WalMart actually jacks up the heat in their entire store about now, until sometime just after Christmas.  It makes it easier for the store cameras to look for people that might be shoplifting.  Most people shead their coats, because it's so warm.

  3. the hot air blowing creates a sort of barrier to prevent the cold air from coming in when someone opens the door. it seems like alot of energy to waste but on the whole it saves energy.

  4. PROBABLY TO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO  COME IN THE STORE. NO ONE LIKES TO BE COLD, SO WHEN A WARM ROOM COMES AROUND, WE'RE TAKEN!

  5. do you mean the big blowers just inside the door. they are used to keep the cold air from coming in the store when the door is opened this keeps the store from cooling down and saves energy

  6. So the heat can get out into the parking lot. Saves energy on snow clearing.

  7. For the same reason they pump in yummy smells...to make it cozy.
