Why do stores carry only three brands of milk?

Everytime I go to the grocery store, I notice that there are only 3 brands of milk, the organic one, the store brand (Great Value, Publix..), and the local brand (Mayfield in GA, Borden in OK). Why is that? Seems like the customer doesn't have a choice.

  1. There's no "national" brand of milk - because it spoils so easily it makes more sense for groceries to carry the local brands.  And the store probably only has a deal with 1 or 2 local dairies, cutting out any competition in order to lock in their business and get a better price.

Seems to me you DO have a choice - buy one of those 3 brands, or get your milk somewhere else.
