Why do stores have on display things that arn't in the store for sale?

I was in best buy earlier today and wanted this one camera (on display with 2 others of the same...different colors) and i was like "I want the blue one" the lady was like 'i'm not sure if we have that..." all the had was the silver one. She was like "you can only get the colored ones on line".

Whats the deal with having things on display but then not having them in the store? Yeah you can that color or size or whatever online...but why can't i just get it in the store?

The things displayed in the windows are usually sold out quicker, so they might have had the blue ones a long time ago, but ran out.
