Why do stores receive winnings for selling winning lottery tickets?

The stores didn't choose the winning numbers, they simply sold the ticket so why do they get winnings?

  1. Incentive for them to sell you those lottery tickets that bleed you dry every week.  Do you think they do it for free?


  2. so they keep selling them they sell them and make little on it but if they get a winner the store gets paid and thats how the state keeps stores selling there tickets

  3. It is commission. The lottery provides the equipment, and the business provides the employees to run the equipment and to sell the tickets. The business uses the commission to pay for it's employees.
