Because there are so many different colours, styles and fabrics to choose from. Male underwear is kind of plain and boring after that. Plus the way that the fabric is made makes for a much softer and smoother feel.

Besides that it makes me feel nicer, gentler and prettier. (but then again, I cross-dress)

But I wonder why you wanted to specify that you think it's weird that "straight men" wore them. Does this mean you don't think its weird if a homosexual man wears them? because I have to tell you that there are way, way many more "straight men" that wear panties than there are homosexual men.

It's not all that uncommon.  I know a guy that likes to wear his wife's underwear because he enjoys the turn on he gets by the way the silky material feels against his junk.  There's nothing wrong with it I suppose unless he finds himself at the E.R. after an accident and had to explain why he's wearing women panties.
