this janitor at my school won 13 million, she literally was like "here ya go heres 1 million fo u, heres 2 million fo u".. WHAT THE h**l? then they make it imperative that they let EVERYBODY know, including televisions, newspapers, etc. Has anybody every thought to $*$*(ing put it in a swiss bank account, change their name and move?

from 3% bank interest she could have been making nearly 400,000$ a year! but no, she is now a janitor again.

well god bless them in order for them to be a blessing he knew people like us would have done somewhat wise things with our money by holding on to it and being selfish with it and some people just get carried away and that is what happened

$13 Million in a lump sum would be about $4 Million after dropping the total won (the $13 Million is only available if you take the winnings as an annuity payable over 30 years) and taxes. $4 Million is nothing to sneeze at, you can live comfortably on that for quite a long time. If you live within the interest of 3% (or $120,000 per year) then you could easily retire..... Here's the rub... all that publicity.... it brings out all the "long lost" relatives and folks looking for freebies. Plus, most folks don't know  how to manage that kind of sudden windfall. It changes people and usually for the worst. There are a ton of stories about lottery winners that go off the deepend. Many just need to return to their original lives just to cope with it all.

Besides, she just might enjoy her work as a Janitor. Cut her some slack.

Some people think if you have a lot of money you don't need a budget. That is so not true! The fact is if you don't keep track of what you have, how much or how little, you will soon have nothing....

Honestly, if you come across some money, you should hire someone to advise you what to do with it-especially if you won it and you have no idea what you are doing except spending large amounts of it very quickly.

Stupid people who win the lottery think this easy money is going to buy them respect and solve all of their personal issues.  Any way, if they were smart, they would have wanted to figure out how to earn a substantial amount of wealth on their own and invest it wisely.  Smart people who use their intelligence don't see the lottery as a way to solve problems.

Good question. I have followed this stuff for a long time as well IM a player myself. It is ignorance. Go online and type in lottery losers. there are some real goofy stories about this, in fact cable has a show on them sometimes.
