Why do surfers hate spongers?

some people think they own the water...there the same everywhere..if they break the rules by dropping in which usually the case they deserve to get run over as thier eyes aren't painted on and are clearly disrespecting the one that is on that wave..as for the swimmers well if the surfer is going into the swimmers flagged area he should have his board confiscated..well the flags are there to protect swimmers and give them a safe place to swim well outside the flags well they are putting themselves at risk not only by surfers but unsafe unpatrolled swimming area..least in flagged area you are somewhat safer....usually flagged area is the best spot on the beach thats why surfers come close...oh and not all surfers are buttwipes...

a lot of surfers look down on body boarders just because the fact that a lot of them just stay on there stomach (this doesnt include drop-knee) and is a less harder sport and shouldnt get any priority in the line up, if youre a surfer im pretty sure everyone has an aggro side getting cut off by someone laying down the whole time, on an already crowded break just sets everyone off,and as for the running over swimmers? I'm not a total *** out there but i have run over a few swimmers on ACCIDENT mainly during tourist season, they were in the surf zone were they wernt suppose to be. they have no respect towards surfers when we ask them to move, If it comes to it i spray people more, but if i accidentally hit them because they were in a surf zone and was already told by life guards and other people to move than I could care less, we're the locals who cleans up after the litter bugs on the beach WE DESERVE SOME RESPECT

i dont hate... i surf.  but i can tell you what bothers me about sponges...  shoulder hopping hacks.  

i have the same problem with newbies in a line up when waves are macking.  MOST (not all, as i do have some cool sponger friends) of the time i get dropped in on and my waves boosted by spongers that have no concept of wave ettiquette.  its simple.  look inside.  if someone is there, you dont drop in.

also, when waves are good, i hate when i sponger takes a wave and just goes straight, i wont drop in on them... but it can be hard to sponge well in big surf.  most spongers cannot keep up with the wave, so the best waves get shoulder hopped and then not even ridden very well.

like i said, you got respect you get respect.  no problem with spongers... just a problem with idiots... and ALL of this applies to idiot surfers too.

Because most surfers think that spongers are talent-less and that they don't have any skill since they don't actually stand up on the board. Surfers also think that spongers take all the good waves and waste them even though spongers can pull off some pretty sick tricks

Imagine it like this:

You are a chef, and you make everything from scratch and it took you a long time and a lot of devotion to learn how to do it. Now, another chef comes along who makes just microwaves his meals and he didn't spend any time learning how to cook and he gets the same end result as you.  That, is a sponger to a surfer. As far as surfers running over swimmers, that sounds like a personal problem, I've been surfing for 10+ years and have never heard of such a thing.
