  4. I think it's a corruption of shun, the last sylable of Attention!

    In Sgt Bilko he often said "Ten-Hut!" where mostly you'd expect "attention!"

    Having "Attention!" yelled at the top of the voice and then what people thought they heard at the top of the voice gradually eroded the sound to

    "A-Ten- HUT!"  and then "TEN-HUT!"  and then just "HUT!"

  5. sorry but that is only on t.v. in real life they don't shout anything they try to be as quiet and inconspicuous as possible
