Why do swimmers wear 2 suits???

i always see swimmers in the locker room and they always have on two suits it is so weird does anyone know why

Sometimes you can see through only one, and if you're doing drag workouts swimmers tend to wear 2 because the one is so loose it doesn't exactly "hold everything".

im a swimmer and i sometimes wear 2 swimsuits.its for 2 reasons. 1 is if you swim a lot...then your bathing suits get worn out really easily and go see through. if you wear 2 then you dont have to buy new ones as often lol. also we wear them for "drag". you wear 2 loose fitting bathing suits that drag a lot. that way once you have a race and your weaing one tight bathing suit your able to go faster and it will be easier because there will be nothing pulling you or hanging off you. hope this helped!

Bathing suits tend to be expensive! chlorine destroys them pretty quick if you are in the pool all the time. So if you wear two at the same time when they get pretty worn out you can more time of them before buying a new one.

Two can also be used to train to add drag.

Its not because suits are see-through. Swim team swimmer wear two suits practicing to condition their bodies. One suit is their size and fits and is perfectly fine and normal. The suit over that, called an: ugly, funky or a drag suit, is to create drag in the water. Thats why they may be baggier or loose. For male swimmer, the baggy mesh shorts over their suit may be for drag but also for modesty reasons because their suits are small and form fitting.

Sometimes their suits are too worn out and if they didnt wear 2 you could see through them.  Sometimes they will wear 2 because it gives more drag and then you become stronger and then at meets you will go faster in 1 suit.  And the last reason is if they are water polo players we usually will wear a athletic 2 peice or a sports bra under our suit because sometimes our suits will get ripped off.

When I go to the health club I just wear one suit but it has a top and a bottom. Maybe pro swimmers have a suit under a special wetsuit? Not sure. I would sure feel restricted if my body was squeezed into 2 bikinis lol.
