Why do t.v. shows need commercials?

  1. To make money. Companies pay to have their advertisements displayed on TV — moreso if they're having it  played at a time when more people are usually watching (a.k.a. "primetime").


  2. So that you can watch for free. Someone has to pay for the production, so advertisers give money to the producers to attract your attention, so you will see their ads, or commercials. without advertising, we would have no variety and only government programming.

    Does no one teach capitalism anymore? :-(

  3. TV stations make money this way. Let's say you see a Ford commercial on tbs. tbs gets money from ford for the commercials. Get it? It's all about money...

  4. That's the way tv stations make a profit. Advertising agencies pay tv stations to show their commercial on their channel. For example, super bowl commercials are expensive since many people watch it. The super bowl makes it likely for many people to see their ad.
