In this day of age of abbreviations and acronyms, it is very odd to me that they choose to say all six syllables instead of using the common three-syllable acronym. Why do they constantly do this? It drives me nuts.

  1. Because that's what it stands for: The National Football League.  They talk about football for hours every day.  I bet they get tired of saying the same phrases over and over so they mix it up.  Sometimes they say "NFL" sometimes they say "National Football League".

I work with computers a lot.  Sometimes I call the CPU the Central Processing Unit.  Sometimes I call it the "processor".  Sometimes even the "proc".  It depends on a lot of things like who I'm talking to and how big of a hurry I am to get through what I'm saying.  CPU, Central Processing Unit and Proc are the same thing.

  2. It drives me nuts when everything is abbreviated.  It is the National Football League.  It is Major League Baseball, it is, The National Basketball Association.  It's a shame that we live in a lazy society that has to have everything abbreviated for us.

  3. Because NFL stands for Natinol Fottball Leauge thats why they refer to it.

  4. Why do I always refer to the New York Football Giants as the New York Football Giants? Because that's the name. It's the same with the National Football League. I guess it's because Football fans are smarter than NBA fans who need the shorter name because they can't spell Association!
