  1. Well schools ban iPods for the reason that they may get stolen or damaged and the school does not want to be liable for it.

iPods can be educational if used for that purpose. Many school districts are starting to use podcasting in English classes to promote better listening and reading skills.

  2. teachers do not make policy...they are there to enforce it...ask the state or school district why, it isn't the teachers' fault

  3. For a number of reasons:

    1) To prevent students from recording answers to tests and then loading them to their ipods

    2) To prevent students from listening to them in class

    3) To prevent the temptation of stealing them from the less moral students

Why would you need an iPod at school anyway? You've got, what, an hour for lunch, and a few minutes between classes? I think most students can survive that long without music, video, and podcasts.

  4. its most schools; not just in CA, and public schools do it, private, whatever.

They ban them for the same reason someone might ban a tiny personal tv or a cell phone or something.

you wont pay attention since you'd be listening to music or whatever, thus you won't learn, thus school is pointless for you. Since the point of school is to learn, they try to ban all distracting things (like ipods).

I think that the getting it lost or stolen thing has to do with it as well, so thats why they just ban them altogether: its simpler than say letting you listen at lunch, or any complicated system.

As far as if its fair,

I sort of think it is. Its just not worth it to listen to it during school.

  5. I live in U.K, Wales and almost every school has this rule. We're not even allowed mobile phones in school. If the teachers catch anyone with a mobile they take it from you and the head teacher recycles them. MEANIE BO BEANIE.

Just be glad there aren't such rules in U.S. You don't even have to wear uniform COOL! We have to :(

I wish I lived in America, CA

  6. If students use iPods or cell phones in class, it disrupts the class and also interferes with their concentration on what the teachers are trying to teach.

  7. Most rules are made for one purpose -- to keep the educational process running smoothly.  Anything that interferes with that has probably got a rule against it.  That's why things like knives, suggestive clothing, cell phones, and iPods are not allowed in school.

    Like my answer, fool?

  8. its not only CA.  i'm pretty sure most schools do it.  My school in PA does it.  i don't think its fair because sometimes there are classes where you do absolutely nothing.  but you have to see where teachers are coming from.  when they are trying to teach, and your sitting there listening to your ipod, what would you think? first of all its rude to teachers because they are trying to teach you an important lesson, hence  the reason why you are in school....to be educated.  so its their job to give you your education.

  9. - To stop cheaters in tests

    - Because they will not be insured for such things and will not want to pay

    - To prevent thefts and the school getting blamed

    - To stop distractions in classes

They should be banned from classes - break times are different but if the school does not want liabilities for thefts, breakages, etc., then they will ban them for that reason. It would also mean the rule is simple and covers all bases.
