Not everyone is going to have a career that involves speaking infront of alot of people, and usually the day we present most of the class dosen't show up or the shy kids don't want to present and take the F. Even if they're really smart it dosen't matter because they are too shy to speak infront of the class.

  1. If your classmates are immature, that's their problem, and they'll wish they took presentations more seriously. Trust me!  It could also be uncomfortable laughter.  If no one takes it seriously, then no one get embarrassed or hurt, right?

Why did I have to take advanced math classes in high school when I'm an English teacher now? Because it made me smarter, that's why. It's about growing as an individual, and gaining a general education so that our society isn't comprised of a bunch of dummies.

  2. Usually it's part of the curriculum, so it's not really the teachers that have decided it needs to be taught, but rather a big board of people who decide what the teachers need to be teaching.

The ability to be able to present to the class, can really come in handy. It's all about improving your communication skills as well as social skills. There will come a time when everyone has to present themselves in some sort of situation, or present something.

Even if the career they choose doesn't directly involve presenting, then they will still need those skills to get the job in the first place. Just think- the first stage of going for the job- the interview! The job interview itself is one of the most important parts. If you can't present yourself and can't communicate well enough to your employer "because you're too shy". How is your employer going to be able to know if you'd be a good employee. Wouldn't they rather choose someone with great communication skills over someone with next to none?

  3. At some point in your life, you'll need presentation skills.  It might be at a job interview, or at a meeting, or as a way to convince your boss you have a better idea.

School is not just a place to impart knowledge - it's also a place where we share knowledge.  Each of us is a student at times, and a teacher at other times.
