  1. I am a teacher and I have always made an effort to not have favorites and to be fair and equal to all of my students. One year, I found out that one of the girls in my class was crying to her mom because I didn't like her as much as the other girls in the class. She told her I always have the girls I like in the class helping me, and she is never asked to stay in to help. She also told her that I talk to them all the time and don't talk to her as much.

I was shocked. I loved this little girl as much as any other student in my class. So I started observing and I realized that the other girls were always volunteering to help out in class, and being a teacher of 35, I always welcomed the help. These girls would also ask me lots of questions. The little girl who felt left out never volunteered or came up to talk to me during recess. It wasn't that I was ignoring her, but the other girls were just outgoing and loved volunteering to help their teacher. Once I realized this, I asked this little girl if she would like to help me as well, and that was all it took.

Always remember that your view of a situation is only your own perspective of that situation and there is always more to the story than what you think.

  2. Certain kids are easy to love and others just aren't likable.  As a teacher, I hate to say it, but it is just really hard to like some kids.  Teachers tend to focus on the "good" kids because sometimes it's the only thing that gets them through the day when they have to deal with the other ones.

  3. They shouldn't if they are professional, but it is hard not to be HUMAN!

  4. I really try not to, but there are some students that I connect with better than others.  Some students actually try to get to know their teachers and others just see us as other adults and don't really care.  It is hard to try to get to know a student who does not really care about you at all.  I know that I have favorite students, but I do try really hard not to show it.

  5. because some teachers think your terrists,. [=

  6. People with lesser grades always think the teachers are playing favorites.

If you work hard, score well on tests and get yourself good grades by participating in class, you will get a good grade.

  7. Good teachers do not openly favor students.  However, it is human nature to like certain people more than others.

  8. Well, we don't do it on purpose; at least I don't.  But you have to understand that it's human nature to have "favorite" people; teachers are no different - some of us just try a little harder to hide it, I guess.  Just like students have favorite teachers - same concept.

  9. Some kids are more likable. Some students try harder. Some students stand out.  Some students are easy to get along with.

  10. Are your teachers really playing favorites?

Consider students A and B. A has blond hair and B has brown hair. Teacher likes blond hair and gives A better grades. That is playing favorites.

    Also consider:

-A reads all the assignments, asks insightful questions and performs well on tests, but,

-B comes unprepared, rarely participates in class and performs poorly.

Giving A better grades is not playing favorites.

So, if being a favorite is important to you: study, prepare, participate in class and perform well.

  11. Same reason as everyone else, there are some people you like better than others. Can't be helped.

Feel sympathy for your teachers, would you want to teach your class?
