  1. It is the thrill of it all. Knowing you can get away with it and doing it. Also younger people don't often think of their future resulting in stupid acts.

  2. They *really* think they're invincible and know it all.

Some things some people have to learn by experience, and many teens just can't see the big picture.

  3. Sadly, the rate of speeding as well as drinking/driving is much higher in young adults. The fatality rate in teens is literally four times that of adults- teens are twice as likely to get in an accident and drive about half the distance adults do = 4x the fatality rate. In fact, car accidents are the leading cause of death for young adults and people in their early 20's.

Lack of maturity and sense of responsibility is probably the reason teens choose to drink/drive. Recommend that your kids take driver education as well as traffic school/defensive driving- it might help.

  4. Personally, I think it relates to teens having everything given to them. Working and saving for a car gives a person pride in ownership and they think twice about wrecking it. Then again, when reality slaps them in the face, i.e., a school mate is killed and alcohol is involved, it tends to wake up a few people.

Meanwhile, have you ever considered why they take 18 year old boys (not men) into military service? Because they think they are invincible.

  5. The main factor of teenage drinking is influence from their peers.

Teenagers in our society are pressured into trying out alcohol for the first time to see how it tastes like. If they give in to their peers they become part of the group, but if they do not they are not accepted into the group.

As a result of teens being under the influence of alcohol, they are not aware that once they get behind the wheel they are risking their lives and the lives of other innocent people on the road.

Teenagers think it's cool to drink and drive. They feel nothing will happen to them

One out of ten children ages 12-13 consumes alcohol at least once a month.

In a single year, 522 children under 14 were arrested for driving while intoxicated. 113 of them were under 10 years old.

70% of all teenagers drink alcohol.

60% of all teen deaths in car accidents are alcohol-related.

  6. please write in complete sentences! Not all teens speed, drink and drive, I am a teen and I would never do that. Think about looking inwards before you criticize others and other groups.

  7. I think mostly its teenage boys that do this.  Sometimes they want to appear cool to their friends, they have not had as many hard knocks as adults so they do have the same fear we have.  I think graphic adds brought into the schools and campaigns highlighting this problem would help ...adds with real teenagers  like themselves!
