Why do tennis players always hit in to the net?

Is it because they're trying to hit it too perfectly or because they're tired? Talking about the easy returns.

Also why does Stepanek do the "worm" after every win?

  1. It just happens. If you play tennis, you'll understand.

  2. No some tennis players hit in the net to get a thing called an Ace which is where you hit the ball at the net and the ball goes over the net just a little bit so the competitor on the other side of the net can't run to fast to save the ball! that is why they hit the net. I PLAY TENNIS SO I KNOW!

  3. Most tennis players try to hit the ball right over the net because most tennis players can't get the ball there.

I have no idea why Stepanek does the worm. Maybe it is his way of expresses himself.

  4. great question.  before i started out playing, i always wondered why they would do this, especially when they are professionals and put in countless amount of time into practices.  well, i learened why after playing 8 years of tennis from elementary to high school varsity tennis.  the fact is, the pros return the ball with so much spin under their control.  they can put side, back, foward, all sorts of spin.  when there is so much spin, its hard to return the ball correctly.  you try to counter the spin and sometimes, it just won't work and it puts a lot of strain on your racket. (thats why you see them fixing their racket so much)  and yes, you will lose your stamina as you go on and you will lose control and the energy to properly return the ball.  and yea. sumtimes, they just plain mis hit the ball.

  5. Many players try to get the ball just over the tape.

  6. Well, first of all tennis players do not always hit it in the net all the time.  The mostly get it in unless they suck.  People hit it out just as much as they hit into the net.  Stepanek is a weird  one, he is just showing of to the crowd.

  7. well the thing is pros have the tendency to jump when they hit the ball. i am sure u noticed as they come into the ball they have a slight jump.Roger Fed dose this a lot. and u really shouldn't do this unless ur really good cause when u do that like the pro the ball is not in a lower height than it should be and so the racket can't hit the ball properly. and while jumping people tend to make the rackets face go down so the ball go in a downward direction.

  8. yes players do hit it in the net not intentionally maybe because their tired or trying to go for too much.

and i had no clur that stephanek did the worm but he has alway been weird in my eyes.

    cheers

  9. because its hard to aim sometimes. da!!!!!

  10. Tennis players are not purposely hitting the net. If they hit the net it is just a bad shot. I don't know whey Stepanek does the worm when he wins. He is really sweaty and looks like half monkey half ape.

  11. i think the basic idea of tennis is to get the ball over the net into the opponent's court, therefore all tennis players hit the ball over the net. i believe every player has her/his own preference of stroke, but the most energy-efficient kind of stroke is always the one that can bring the ball just above the net and safely drops inside the opponent's court. of course there are easy returns, say you hit it carefully about 3 to 6 ft above the net and safely lands midcourt, but the ball will be slow and prone to counter-attack, or even worst, get intercepted by your opponent's volley. that's why most players hit with a lot of topspins nowadays. topspins allows you hit higher than just above the net, and safely lands inside your opponent's court. to make the ball gets over the net with spins and not really easy to intercept, you need to hit with more power. after hitting some heavy spins, you really gets tired and eventually you hit into the net. talk about comparing power-consuming for safety (spins with power) versus power-efficient but risky (flat strokes barely above the net). powerful spins get your arms tired quickly. flat strokes risks hitting into the net. oh, well. practice, practice. hope it helps :)
