Why do terrorists or rebels kill people then complain when a government hits back hard?

In the Philippines, the rebels killed many people so the Philippine army and air force went in and hurt them back. Then the rebels complained. I fail to see the logic there. Do they expect to generate support?

  1. It also happened with the IRA. It was ok for them to bomb cities in England but when our paras hit back on their so called bloody Sunday you could hear their screams across the pond. It looks as if nothing changes.

  2. All terrorists are filled with a psychopathic hatred for any society which they consider does not conform with their ideals.. Like all psychopaths they can only comprehend violence when it is they who are doing the punishing. When it comes back at them they are totally confused and call "cheat".

  3. Terrorists use a two-pronged attack strategy: The first and most obvious is the direct use of force against the society they despise. The second prong is less obvious. By complaining and portraying themselves as victims, they generate sympathy among those people in our society that are borderline about the value of our civilization (read far left wing elements here) and the resulting protests undermine the stability of our governments. And by the way, there are really no such thing as innocent civilians (even terrorists agree with that!). Unless of course you believe that members of the military, govenment, etc, aren't human beings and are instead scooped up from another planet and deposited on earth to make our lives miserable. Last time I checked, most of them had families that loved them just like you and me...

  4. Well this illustrates the problematic circular thinking evident in many extremist groups.

Many Middle Eastern extremist groups dislike western culture 'invading' their areas, so they form violent splinter cells to carry out terrorist attacks.

Then when they receive attack back, they curse us for the deaths of their compatriots, which of course is met by more violence.

  5. It's the same logic that has some Germans today referring to Allied bombing of Germany in World War II as "terror bombing" while saying nothing of German obliteration of hundreds of cities through air raids.

  6. That is the way things work in the world. Most of us just laugh and ignore their whining. He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.

  7. I guess they just wanted a few more days to enjoy their victories.

  8. I like the answers here except from that one uninformed person who wrongfully claimed the army was the only ones guilty.  I gave him a very rare thumbs down for his ignorance.

  9. The major malfunction with ANY terrorist is a failure to recognize that they are in the wrong. That violence and killing is WRONG. By definition, their beliefs are RIGHT and anyone who resists conversion to their way of thinking is WRONG and therefore a target. No terrorist sees that killing a non-believer as WRONG, and that is how they justify their violence. Even the Taliban in Afghanistan claimed to be freedom fighters, when in fact they were one of the most oppressive religious fundamentalist governments ever to have existed. The story claims the commanders "acted on their own" but then refuse to turn over these commanders.

"We cannot subject our members to the laws of the government," Murad said. "We are a revolutionary force."

Oh, so being a "revolutionary force" is supposed to excuse what these rogue commanders DID in killing innocent civilians? Is that what this quote above MEANS? Sorry, but as an outsider, I am all for the military stepping in as they seem to be doing as long as the rogue commanders are allowed to roam free. Now, if they turned the rogue commanders over, I might urge the government to resume peace talks the rebels SAY they want...

  10. the Filipino army bombed civilians. the Filipino rebels only targeted non civilian places/empty places. you see the diffreance?
