Why do the Aussies always wear gold and teal as their team colors?

*gasp* What? Its green and gold! Teal? pssh whatever. lol

Its our national colours.. The green and gold... Too bad the Aussies didnt wear the usual green and gold during the opening ceremony for the Olympics. I stayed up all night waiting to see the green and gold.. but all I saw was blue, and I felt betrayed.

Its the colour of our National Flower Emblem...Wattle.....green and gold.

Harley d is right - it was selected as an alternative to the read white and blue of our flag as this could easily be confused with the UK (or USA/France) so Australia wanted an individual identity so picked the green and gold as a symbol of the wattle which has green flowers and gold leaves ( and incidentally is in full bloom here in Tasmania during the Olympics!)

our first olmypic gold medalist at the athens 1896 games her swim suit was green and ribbons of gold..it stems from there..(i fogotten her name)..its been the unoffical colours of australia for ever..it became in popular usage in the early eighties when alan bond and his yacth team won the americas cup you had the the green flag with a yellow boxing kangaroo and the yacht team wore green and gold ever since then..its been again a unoffical issue.as to what our athletes should wear as thie national colours.but we all accept what our green and gold is to us especially in sports..the reason why we havent changed our colours is because of the flag it still has the blue and white stars and union jack.there has been polls to changed the flag.but its still stagnate thanks o our past prime minister mr howard who is a royalist..other wise  this year you would have found a diffrent flag flying at bejing..but most of our sports people specialy when representing australia will wear green and gold ..

Why not, Its a nice combination and looks hot too. At least its better than New Zealands which is just plain Black which is a boring and looks depressing aswell.
