Why do the British drive on the other side of the road?

I was just curious about this.... I've always known it. I just didn't know the reason. Anyone know why?

Because they're stupid! Only joking..I love The British..love their silly accents,dreadful dull movies,bad teeth....etc!!

Why should Americans drive on the right side of the road?  What is special about the right side?

The main reason that the british drive on the left is that they were never defeated by Napoleon.

Napoleon insisted that his armies march on the right because he was lefthanded and it gave him an advantage when meeting an opposing army.

Those parts of mainland Europe that he did not invade changed gradualy to driving on the right to provide conformity but the UK did not need to change as there are no land borders with any country that drives on the right and the cost of changing would be astronomical.

All Japanese cars are right hand steering, so actually they make special left hand drive cars for us.
