  1. They would not want certain people from other country to stretch the truth and lie just to make their own country look good.

  2. Because Chinese officials want total control over information.

  3. Because they care about "values".  They don't want Western corrupted ideas to pollute the minds of their youth.

If you care about Olympic, go cover Olympic.  If you want to cover Tibet or Human rights.  Go after Olympic or another time.  Beijing is already crowded as it is.  Leave some spaces for those who actually go to Beijing for the Olympic.

  4. for the same reasons they censor internet access 365 days a year.

when people come to the US we expect them to obey our laws. why should you be able to visit another country and be allowed to ignore theirs? other countries do not allow the freedom that is available in the US. thats just the way the world works.

  5. Because they don't want their own people finding out the truth about the freedoms much of the world enjoys for fear that they will rise up and overthrow the communist government (as they should).

  6. Because Western always fabricate that Tibet is never part of China!

  7. Because they don't want their citizen's mind getting "polluted".

People think that Chinese government only censor topics relate to political issues.  But in fact, they censor anything as potentially "dangerous".  So, they view many sites on the internet as "dangerous to their citizen".

And be realistic, internet is great but it has a lot of "junks" on it.  So, it is hard to define what and when it should be censored.

You might not agree with censoring on topics such as Taiwan and Tibet.  But why would you agree with censoring on topics such as pornagraphy and violence?

  8. They are trying to avoid bad news about the Olympic, Tibet, Taiwan, and some other sensitive problems.

  9. not_true is right. Some of the blocked sites are not political. Like pornography and searching g*y and L*****n things will return a lot of blocked websites.

In my opinion, why exactly do the reporters need to access websites about Tibet if they are reporting on the Olympics? If the reporters can research information about Tibet on the internet, then so can I, if I want to read about it!

The websites about athletes stats and histories are not blocked, and those are the types of websites reporters should be looking at! What's the point on having a reporter at the Beijing Olympics if they are researching Tibet? They should be interviewing athletes and giving me information about the athletes and events that only someone who is there could give me! That's what they're there for!

If they want to search Tibet and look at p**n on the internet, they should stay in their home nations! No point having an Olympics reporter who is not reporting about the Olympics!
