Why do the Chinese gymnasts look so young this Olympics compared to years past ?

I realize that orientals in general are alot more petite but this year they look just way TOO petite to even be in the Olympics. I love the way they put make up on them to make it seem as though they are older. They did a terriffic great fabulous performance and if there was an Olympics for their age group they should have won.

i'm no expert, but a 16 year old from one culture could possibly look younger or older from another culture, considering diet, stress, and overall living conditions.   You have to admit that a lot of gymnasts look very very young for their age, even the US ones.

I think they are underage. Their ages were reported to be 14 in China Daily, People's Daily, and Sina, all of which are government owned or run There is also evidence from an inner-city registration list and one of the gymnast's own coaches.

Americans are not saying this out of "poor sportsmanship". It was reported in the New York Times in July, before the Olympics started.

China has a history of age falsification in the Olympics. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics Chinese gymnast Yang Yun competed and won a bronze medal in the uneven bars. Yang's passport said she was born on December 24, 1984 and turning 16 in the year of the Games, making her eligible. She later confessed in a television interview that she was only 14 at the time of the competition and that she and her coaches had lied about her age.

If the girls really were 16 it could be proven using an MRI scan.

Well, it is a big country and they are hosting the Olympics. I would say that it's because they try to find the best athletes around...younger, faster, stronger...

Well, people are saying that the girls are to young. A reporter actually found something on the internet from china that was talking about one of the gymnast and her province and on that it actually said she was 13. Right after she found it it was immediatetly takin off the website.

keep up on the current events this is a few week old topic. but they are obviously underage. i know most Asians are petite but give me a break a few of these girls are way underage. the one had to be like 4 feet tall. unfortunately they will never be punished because their whole stupid country is pretty much evil and will do anything to cover up the cheating

Asian people age much better than caucasians.  

Younger Asians look at white people and cant believe how much older they look, taller they look at the same age.  It may be intimidating in some sports since the white person they are competing against looks like a grown adult.  

But once orientals reach their 20's and 30's, they still look so much younger than caucasians at the same age!
