Question:

Why do the Milwaukee Brewers stay so committed to pitcher Jeff Suppan?

He has been so average and regularly hammered by opposing teams that I cannot believe this guy actually got a 4-year $42 million contract. Any thoughts on what the Brewers should do or about what will actually happen with Suppan?

  1. i wish they would send him down to AAA and have the rotation be Sabathia, Sheets, Parra, Bush, McClung, but Suppan did well last year so they gave him a big contract which sucks, because now he sucks

  2. As average as he is it does take a whole team to win. I think the first few games of the new season should be a good indicator whether the contract was a good decision or not. It will be interesting to see how things go against the Cubbies

  3. the brews could have won that game if Yost would have take him out. But the Brewers offense gave up some terrible plays that shouldn't have led to base hits. They made bad mistakes that also added on to how Suppan pitched the 5th. Though he started the game off good. Braun was the best player in the game today.

    $42 Mill? never knew that...

  4. Unfortunately, he's in a no-trade clause that expires at the end of this year. Ned Yost need to wisen up and realize that he's NOT the pitcher he was in St. Louis. They could move him to the pen or, better yet, AAA, but he's still being paid...9.75 mil? this year, and it wouldn't make much financial sense. But it doesn't make much sense for the team for him to stay in the rotation. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do, other than hope he turns it around.

  5. Unfortunately, Yost just doesn't know how to handle a pitching staff.  The Brewers are winning in spite of him, not because of him.

Take this 5th pitcher platoon.  There is a reason that it has never been done before.  It just doesn't make sense.  But at least it makes  more sense than putting Gagne in the game in the 8th inning with only a one or two run lead (which Yost also seems to be doing a lot lately).

But it isn't just the pitchers -- Cameron is still playing every day while Kapler sits the bench.  And I still think that Hart should be batting leadoff.
