  1. I haven't heard any refusal. Please cite your source.

Only the UN Security Council has any power to "interfere" in any country or war, and this can happen only if the five permanent members of the council vote together: the USA, China, Great Britain, France, and RUSSIA. Those five countries are not at all in agreement about what is happening in Georgia, so how could the Security Council possibly do anything?

Other UN bodies can talk and issue statements, but none of them have any power to do anything -- only the members of the UN Security Council can do anything.

  2. The U.N. is a corrupt and nearly useless organization, that's why.

  3. The UN is just like the boy scouts with firepower. They want to be involved but are too petrified to do anything.  The European union needs to step up and stop this chaos, but since Russia holds all that natural gas, they will sit back and watch just like they did in Bosnia. It took the US to step in and stop it. This is what happens when the world sits back and lets Russia do whatever they want to, they still have not learned the Russians are nothing less than modern day barbarians and always will be, Look what they did to Europe for over 50 years.

  4. Because any resolution made by the UN can be vetoed by Russia.

United Nations Security Council is not an organisation, it is simply of countries to gang up against each other.

  5. They're begging all parties to stop the violence and talk.  What exactly do you want them to do, send more Russian "peacekeepers"?  That's how the problem started!

  6. they dont refuse,

probably soem political pressure from Russia

the hole europe depends on Russia , on gaz, on oil etc..

  7. The world. You deceive! World mass media conduct propagation of a false information. Russia DID NOT ATTACK Georgia! 07.08.2008 at 22:00 Georgia has attacked South Ossetia. At 3:30 08.08.2008 tanks of the Georgian armies have entered into city Tskhinvali. Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted. 2000 civil people already were lost. The Russian peacemakers have arrived to South Ossetia in the evening 08.08.2008 for settlement of the conflict and prompting of the world in republic and protection of the Russian citizens living on territory of South Ossetia. Georgia has attacked South Ossetia on eve of Olympiad, it is top of cruelty and cynicism. We shall tell is not present to WAR!!!

    ----------------------------

The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has called the Georgian assault “a crime”.

He has personally toured the beds of the injured, and spoken with refugees, across the border in North Ossetia, inside Russia. He said he could no longer bear to listen to their appalling stories.

One women told him she had seen relatives pushed into a house which was then set on fire. Another described an old woman and two children being crushed by a Georgian tank. Putin insisted it was “beyond the imagination of any civilised person”.

The prime minister returned to Moscow adamant that Russian intervention in South Ossetia was completely justified.

In front of television cameras, speaking to President Dmitry Medvedev, Putin said:

“People are in a difficult situation, especially old people, children and women. They have seen a lot of suffering. I would like to draw your attention, Mr President, to elements of genocide against South Ossetian people”

It appears there are moves to create humanitarian corridors for refugees to flee. But Georgia insists nothing has yet been agreed.

  8. That's simple. Since there are 5 permanent members in the Security Council and one of them is Russia, the UN will not do anything against Russian interests. Moreover, who would like to start a conflict with Russia, with a nuclear superpower?

Besides that, the UN is a decaying organization which does nothing except making recommendations. And these recommendations are deliberately written in a general way which allows more interpretations. These "resolutions" (I don't know why they call them so) are only a piece of paper written in a poetic way, with a longer preamble than the main text. In its present way, the UN is an organizations aimed primarily at high wages of its officials and corruption.

So you can't await the UN to be decisive in a conflict in which a world's superpower is engaged. The UN can be "decisive" (that meas at least able to approve some "resolution") only in mainly African and undeveloped countries which don't have enough influence in the world to defend their interests themselves.

  9. Your not listening,,,,,, the UN is doing what it always does,,, talk and talk and talk, useless bunch of leftist burocrates that work so uneffectively with the huge ammount of money they get.

We need people that get the job done and not more polititians

  10. Fisrtly, the United Nations has nothing to interfere with. Peacekeeping forces are consisted of military forces which are granted to them by member nations, none of which want to mess with Russia. Secondly, even if those forces were there, they can't act without orders from the Security Council which Russia has veto power over.

  11. because throwing more soldiers into a war never really helps. throwing fuel on the fire anybody?

  12. The UN Security Council has not had a veto in I don't know how long. If one of the Big Five (US, UK, FR, CH, RF) disagrees with a resolution, they abstain from voting. I don't know if you know this, but Russia isn't as high and mighty as she once was. The US could easily defeat them in a war (if Bush wasn't our president).

Plus when it comes to peace keeping forces, the nation has to agree to allow the peace keepers in. Let's use Darfur, Sudan as an example. Sudan has allowed 7-9 thousand AU/UN peace keeping forces into Darfur. The UN security council has promised 25 thousand peace keepers. Sudan is refusing to allow additional forces.

The UN's main downfall is the need to "respect the sovereignty of all nations"

  13. The UN is worthess and as far as I am concerned a waste of time and energy.  With no authority, what can they really accomplish?  Nothing.  They UN is like pit bull with no teeth.  All bark, no bite.

  14. Not Genocide. Also in this case belligerents are in an oil war.

UN Personnel are also hard to come by The UN does not have enough people as  UN resources are spread thin through various countries in Africa  , The Middle East.  The UN will not act on Global Warming either at least not fast enough though . UN demolition teams sent in to destroy oil refineries and major airports could bring peace to The World though . Not even all the Marines in the world can fix the egg we call home though. None will send in the marines either.
