  1. the 5 key is the center key - the raised bump on the key allows a person familiar with the layout of the keypad to use it without looking at the numbers only by using the relative position of the keys.


  2. I think it is so you can find the middle button and then find the other numbers from there. (incase it is dark or you can't see, etc.) I have no proof but it is the only possibility that makes sense to me.

  3. for blind people to be able to know where the buttons are from that point, also if you know that bump is 5, you dont have to look yourself.
