  1. Because "Bruce" sounds too g*y. Actually the word Roger hearkens back to the day when it was used to describe "that certain part of the male anatomy", thus lending it some credence in a male dominated police force. Beyond that any term could obviously be used to terminate a conversation. OK, its' a draw between me and Canada whose justification is worthy of note, but certain subconscious attributions should not be discounted.

  2. Roger" was "phonetic" for "R" (received and understood". In radio communication, a "spelling alphabet" (often mistakenly called a "phonetic alphabet) is used to avoid confusion between similarly sounding letters. In the previously used US spelling alphabet, R was Roger, which in radio voice procedure means "Received". While in the current spelling alphabet (NATO), R is now Romeo, Roger has remained the response meaning "received" in radio voice procedure. In the US military, it is common to reply to another's assertion with "Roger that", meaning: "I agree".

Stolen from - Major David Null, Auxiliary USAF, Claremont, CA USA

  3. To let whomever they are speaking with know they are done talking.

  4. Because Frank is dead.

  5. Because "okey-dokey pokey" is a copyrighted statement.

The word "roger" is a radio acknowledgement where "R" means "Received message". Cops don't say roger anymore, its 10-4.

  6. They got it from WW2 flicks. Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne and Clark Gable always said "Roger" when they talked on a radio mic in their airplane scenes.

  7. because its fun to say.

roger roger roger roger roger roger roger roger roger.

    What's your vector, Victor?

  9. when you are talking short wave or like talking and have to push button to talk and then let it up roger means done and your turn to talk an dthe other person talks and says roger that and so on and its keept like that so you can turn the button on and off.

  10. It's verification that the message has been received and understood.

    Over-your message is over

over and out-end of message and end of current radio transmissions

    etc...

The military does the same thing and basically any one who uses radios.
