Well, they hair in your face is distracting especially when doing gymnasticss, plus judes deduct points if it's in your face and not slicked back and in a ponytail or if you have long hair, a bun.

i guess it's a decorative thing, and to make sure no hairs fall out, with judging being so strict.

Really, it's just to keep the hair out of their face.  I have to admit, the Chinese do go a little overboard with the hair clips! :P

To the person who asked about their chest(wich is very rude) they dont have a big chest because when they are so young and practise as vigerously as they do they get a lack of hormones. If they stopped for a year or two they would develop alot more. But i still think that was a rude way of asking such a question!

Yeah, either they go bald or tie up their hair real tight.

A hair in your face is a distraction that you can't be bothered with when trying to keep that kind of concentration.

The speed at which they move can knock every hair out of place. As a former gymnast, I STILL find those hair clips around my house, years later...very useful AND necessary :)

haha it's so their hair doesn't get in the way. but it does seem like the Chinese use TONS. I'm pretty sure the US team uses bobbypins, so you cant really tell.

Because their hair might have been cut in a layered fashion, so they had to have a lot of clips to keep it out of their face.

I noticed this to..its too keep the hair from falling out and getting in their face. They are going to do everything to keep their hair from distracting them becuase it could make them make a mistake, and thats not something they want to do in the olympics. The americans also use them, i think someone mentioned bobbypins. Its just that the americans use the ones that are like their hair color, so you cant really see them unless they show a close up.
