Why do the gymnastic athelets put honey on their hands?

i know they put chulk on their hands,but i dont understand the honey thing. i'm watching the women's gymnastics and noticed a honey bottle in the chulk tank. please some one help me with the answer.

  2. "The gymnasts use honey or "sugar water" on the parallel bars to help them with the grip for the elements where they swing under through the bars (usually known as giant skills).

    The gymnasts normally use chalk (as they do on the other events), but for the gymnasts that do a lot of those underswinging elements on parallel bars, they also use honey. They chalk up the bars really well before their routine, and then they use a little honey on their hands which allows them to have a better grip hanging on for those moves that swing below the bars."

  3. i am a gymnast, so what i say makes more sense then what the other 2 guys said.

    when you put it on your hands it makes them sticky, and sometimes doing certain moves the chalk makes you slide so you put it on your fingertips to stick in case you fall off. you can also put it on the heel of your palm or all over your palm. its pretty much chalk but....diffrent.
