Why do the hockey fields always appear wet even though its not raining?

Hockey fields are artificially wet, usually with a giant sprinkler. This is done because it enables the ball to move along the field easier when it is hit by a hockey stick.

It has something to do with the ball moving better on a wet field hockey field, so they wet it down.
