Why do the majority of members invited to join a restricted group do not need approval?

I'm a group owner/moderator. I've set the group to "restricted" and invited a number of people. About 10% of those I get notified as "pending" to approve once they want to join, the others seem to join without my approval (or me being notified about "pending members") although I should approve every singe one. Why is that?

  1. invites do not require approval, it by passes it. the idea is, is since you invited them, you're pre approving their membership. any that you invited that you had to approve, didn't use the invite. they click the join tab right on the group.
