  1. It depends on the way the earth is tilting and how much of the location on earth you are is being hit by the sun.

  2. The earth is tilted at 23 1/2 degrees and as it orbits the sun  the northern and southern hemispheres become either closer of further away(relatively) from the sun or face it more or are more hidden from it. At the moment the northern hemisphere is facing it more and the southern hemisphere is more hidden from it. Hence that is why there is 24 hours of daylight during our Summer months at the North Pole and 24 hours of darkness in our Winter.

  3. It varies with latitude and the time of year. The Sun's location with respect to the location on Earth determines how many hours of daylight it will receive.

  4. Daylight hours vary because of the combined effect of the tilt of the earth's axis and the revolution of the earth around the sun(apart from spinning of the earth about its axis which mainly produces day and night).
