  1. irons are made of solid metal. putters, woods, hybrids, etc. are mostly made of titanium which is very light for a faster swing speed. only the front of the club is made for contact. the other sides and back of the clubs are very soft and easy to ding, dent and chip.

  2. There is no reason other than that irons don't get sold with covers. However, if you have forged clubs, get covers or you will see dings very fast on your clubs. I say cover them all. After all that money i spent, i don't even like the damage hitting balls puts on them. But i'll take some damage for a birdie anyday.

  3. the drivers and woods are more sensitive than the irons most people carry in their bags.  plus you use your irons a lot more than you use your woods so covering the irons become tedious when trying to play...hope that helps

  4. I'll take this one step further - the SHAFT of many drivers and woods should also be covered with a sock to prevent them from scratches.  A dent or scratch on a non metal shaft is the start of a catastrophic failure.

While a few nicks on the outside of your irons may not look pretty, having those plastic covers on every iron looks kind of silly.

  5. Some folks actually do have covers on all of their clubs.  While it is true that the majority only cover their driver....its a personal preference thing
