Question:

Why do the people who live in this house ring the door bell rather than opening the door themselves?

The question speaks for itself. I try to get everybody to stop ringing the doorbell and instead come into the house with their key. After all, they live here, they should let themselves in.

How can I get people used to this routine?

I got my sister into it every once in a while, but my parents are stubborn so it's harder to get them into it.

  1. Have a family meeting and discuss this issue with everyone.  Let them know that if they don't use their key - they might not get in.  It's every adults responsibility to keep up with their key to enter your home.  Sounds like a privilege to me that they should be more respectful.

  2. that is a minor issue..

Maybe your folks want to see your smiling face occasionally

  3. They may be ringing the bell to warn you of their arrival in case you're doing anything you wouldn't want them to catch you doing.

In the future, don't get up to answer the door, then they'd be forced to use their key and let themselves in.

  4. i know my pop does the same thing. it's annoying.

  5. when you move out and have your own house, you can have your own rules.  when i was a kid at home i would have appreciated a warning of approaching parents.

  6. I don't think there is a cure for being lazy.

Don't answer the door and force them to use their key- Oh, sorry, I had my ipod on!!

  7. It's called laziness. Maybe they are just self-centered, and want someone to wait on them.

  8. I do it to give the people that are home a warning that I'm coming in.
