Because Vauxhall's fleet marketing is very price-aggressive. Not always so, here it's Volvo, BMW, Skoda, Ford.

Because Vauxhalls can be modded easily and cheaply for power gain, and are relatively cheap to maintain and insure.

They probably offer a very good service package and discount to the public sector which is why there are so many about.

Its not a political thing, each force has its own allocated budget.

Buses nowadays always tend to be Dennis or Volvo for much the same reason.

The bit about Thatcher sounds like the sort of stunt that she would pull but isn't true I'm afraid.

Each Chief Constable is responsible for the purchase of vehicles.

In my force its BMWS, Volvos, Skodas and Fords.

Believe me when I say its price which is the primary concern.

If we followed the first posters logic would we drive around in a pig yellow taxi or perhaps all ride Harley hogs.

They don't where I live, they're into cheap & nasty Ford Focus panda cars, but most are still Volvo S60 saloons or V70 estates, plain & marked.

To be honest, I don't know why the cops don't use cheaper second hand cars instead of constantly buying expensive, brand new cars - that way it wouldn't matter if they bashed them about a bit instead of worrying about scratching the paintwork a little. That way instead of using rehearsed, precise, boxing in techniques they could just pit manoeuvre fleeing criminals like they do in the US. To be honest - if I was chasing some mindless, moron who was endangering everyone else's lives I would do anything I could to stop them - including driving into them as hard as possible!! I guess it's a good job I don't work for the police as I would be going through car bumpers and radiators like noone's business!
