Why do the police say they are 'disappointed' with the Barry George verdict?

I mean you would have thought they need to set a good example and show our justice system is fair especially coming from the line of work they do. As he is proven to be not guilty through the English justice system, surely they should treat him like a man who is innocent, and if anything apologies to the man for keeping him locked up for 8 years, not say they are disappointed that they . To me it seems like the police are saying they are dissapointed that they can't lock up an innocent man... Even if he did do it, the justice system says he is innocent, so surely the police should be treating the situation as them regreting locking up an innocent man, not them annoid that they can't keep an innocent man in jail longer than the 8 years of his life they already have...? The whole thing seems a bit wierd to me, as in it seems the police needed a way out to make themselves look good as it was such a high profile case, and so they've picked the easy target 'local nutter' as no one is going to think this crazy man is innocent. What are your thoughts?

  1. I suspect they believe he did commit the crime and they and the CPS made a mess of the prosecution.

  2. The police were under extreme pressure to convict someone fast....Barry fitted the profile, a loner and a stalker.....The cheif of police is the person demanding results however unsafe...Sad very sad....

  3. the police fitted him up, he was an easy target, now they have to get off their lazy fat @rses and find the real killer.

  4. ineptitude is a good word

  5. Disappointed is a euphemism. Barry George was the perfect suspect. He had a history which made him an ideal candidate for being made a scapegoat. They scraped the barrel to make every piece of evidence fit to Barry George. Jill Dando was a high profile celebrity and Barry George was a vulnerable human being who they could they could, and did exploit. They are disappointed because it makes them look like a bunch of idiots and now they have to go back to the drawing board and find the real killer. They were the villains of this piece and it has now been proved in court.

  6. sure why not

  7. They`d rather put a potentially innocent person behind bars than to go after that foreign business man she visited before her murder

  8. I feel very uneasy about the verdict from either point of view. If he is innocent, then it's a good job that the death penalty is not in place. I am a supporter of the death penalty, however, there was always doubt on the Barry George case. Even the media at the time put elements of doubt on the episode.

The cost to the taxpayer has been millions already, and he's going to get up to 1 million in compo. He is still a bad ar$e though whichever way you veiw him. He's had a string of other convictions - check out his form - you don't have to look far for his prevoius!

But, no, the police should NOT appologise, they should be out looking for the REAL killer and get on with their job.

  9. They [Police] are disappointed because they  failed to get away with fitting up a vunerable suspect. How can they sleep at night?  I recommend the core team working on the case are at least demoted and some should be prosecuted.

  10. I suspect they used the word 'disappointed' because they believe him to be guilty. Using such a word conveys their feelings without making them completely (and libelously) clear.

  11. 'Cos now they have to pull their thumbs out of their asses and find the real killer.

  12. They are disappointed because somewhere along the line they stuffed up and charged the wrong person, an innocent man.

  13. If Barry George is innocent, he should be found not guilty. That is how the legal system is supposed to work. Justice is supposed to be blind.

  14. Because they know that he is actually guilty and is getting away with it.

  15. they would have liked to fry him.
