  1. Most Argentinians and and Uruguayans are white because they were colonized by the europeans, the indians were almost all killed and there are very few black people.

Also, during the 19 century both Uruguay and Argentina received massive immigration from Europe that reinforced even more the presence of white population in both countries.

Both countries have the same percentage of white people (around 80%) but in Argentina the non-whites are indians (that live in the north provinces) while in Uruguay non-whites are mostly black who were orignally Brazilians who escaped to Uruguay from slavery.

  2. because they were originially populated by Spanish and Portugese, who have white skin

  3. Europeans didn't just immigrate to the U.S., Canada, South Africa, or Australia.

Argentina, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and other South American countries were popular destinations for the Spanish & Italians to immigrate to.

  4. Because they did not intermingle with the indigenous people or any slaves they brought over.

  5. Much like our tragic past in the United States when dealing with Native Americans, the native populations were killed off or were forced to leave when the Europeans developed the area.  They did not intermix and there are only a handful of people today who are even distant descendants of the indigenous people in that region.

  6. Cuz they didn't mix with the natives of the land, and had a heavy flow of European immigration later on. Most of Latin America is Mestizo, but Argentina, Chile, Uruguay are exceptions to this majority.
