  1. cultivars are propagated vegetatively by cuttings.  a cultivar is chosen from a seedling population for its favorable attributes.  a culivar's seed reverts to the parent plant


  2. Depends on the tree and it depends on the pollination, actually I should say it depends on the plant and sources of pollen. Some trees are cultivated as they are, same as the trees in the forest. Some are crossed but due to genetic mechanisms revert back as the pollen source to form the seed (cultivar) isn't present. They would not have been present in the wild to cross unless we transported them over huge distances, very unnatural. Some trees are self pollinating with male flowers on the top and female on the bottom and some species have the female on the top and male on the bottom to only facilitate pollen from another tree. That can be manipulated by hand carried pollen when it suits us, but without that source, it goes back to the basic pattern (but not always). Have a particular plant/ tree in mind? It's easy to tell specifically.
