Why do the speedometers on cars go up so high?

when it is not legal to drive so fast? Just curious.

  4. Belive it or not there are more countries in this world then the US. You can buy most US cars in Europe. Speed laws are different.

    Also some people don't care about speed limits.

    Also some cars are taken to the track. You can goes as fast as you want to there.

    Also it helps with the calibration of the speedo to have the normal crusing speed in the middle.

    Also it helps sell the car.

  5. because if they only went up to 65 it would be really boring to do anything over that and also because if a cop nails ya for 75 in a 65 how would u know u were only doing 67?

  6. because there are places you can drive that fast. There are still private highways that have no speed limit. Also, its perfectly legal to run any vehicle at a motorspeedway track.

  7. I had a 1987 Mustang 5.0 for a while.

    People asked me how fast it went.

    It was a fast car, but I always told them "85", because that's the highest reading on the speedometer.
