Why do the subtitles automatically turn on?

I own a magnavox tv and when i power it on the subtitles automatically turn on. Does anyone know how to turn this setting off?

Use your remote control and go into the menu and find the subtitle section, probably under Audio.  It must be set to come on.  '

Also, if you have a cable box it could be pre-set in there as well.  If one doesn't work, check out the other one.
