  1. a fun class to teachers has a different definition than a fun class to students.  a fun class to students usually means being able to do whatever you want and not having to pay the consequences. not having to do alot of work and basically no real rules are inforced.  if the class was this version of "fun" then the teacher would not be doing his/her job effectively.  when the teacher tries to make it "fun" (a teachers version of fun) the students normally don't appreciate it or say its boring.  teachers are not supposed to be your entertainment.

  2. If every class was a "fun class" it would be far more difficult to have a serious class.  Any time a teacher tries a fun activity, they are taking a risk.  They are risking that the students will stay on task, and take an active role in their education.  Teachers who do that too often, tend to have discipline problems.  They run into students who stop listening when it's time to get down to work.

Also, "fun lessons" usually involve MUCH more work and preparation from the teacher.  Imagine if you had a class where every assignment, from tests to five point homeworks, had to be a wonderful, creative, work-intensive presentation.  Would you enjoy that class?  I'm guessing it would be fun for the first few assignments, but eventually you'd get burned out.

  3. 1st, I must address Papafrita.... You used the incorrect form of "there" in your reply that dissed the Asker.

I like to have fun in class; however, we'll all be on a roll, having fun, LEARNING, building rapport, then some IDIOT takes something too far.  You know the type (hopefully it's not you or your friends).  Now, you may wonder, why not just punish that idiot?  Because he/she is usually fueled by half the class by their laughter/egging on, so more than just mr. idiot are guilty.

Also, sometimes I need ideas on how to mix it up.  I ask my students how we can make it less boring, but I rarely get responses--at all.  HELP US!  :)

  4. IT IS HARDER TO GET STUDENTS TO ACTUALLY DO THEIR WORK IF THEY BELIEVE IT WILL ALL BE FUN. IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE WAY STUDENTS TREAT THEIR TEACHERS. IT YOU TREAT THEM WITH A LOT A RESPECT YOU WILL SEE THEY WILL ACT DIFFERENT TOWARDS YOU.

  5. because they want to put the students through as much misery as we put them through

  6. Because so much pressure is put on teachers today to have good standardized test scores that every second of fun has been "eeked" out of the class time...

  7. Because students like yourself type "what" instead of "want" on there yahoo questions.  Hello.  If you're going to ask a question about lack of intelligence, at least type it correctly...

  8. Because they're trying to educate you, so you don't end up in a 9-5 job you hate, or jobless even, and are able to acheive your ambitions.

  9. Because they get paid to teach you, not be your friend. Teachers put up with alot of B.S from kids. They're walked all over by stupid teenager that think they know everything. Why not try going up to the teacher and saying thanks every now and then? Or I appreciate you teaching me. You'll be surprised to see the teacher turn around and become really nice towards you.

  10. That is a sad day when teachers can't enjoy what they are teaching. When the teacher enjoys what they are teaching, then the students will love learning. Frankly I don't know how to answer that question. I know when I teach or taught my students last semester, they had fun because they had fun learning the material. Most of all, they know they had a teacher who cared enough to take the time to help them when they don't understand. You may not be a teacher at this point, but if you decide to become one, make sure that you love what you teach, and love your students as well. Your students are not going to care about how much you know until they know how much you care.

  11. It's not that teachers don't want to have fun classes, it's just not possible at all times.  It's not a teacher's job to ENTERTAIN students; it's our job to TEACH you what you have to know to succeed in life.  It's not possible to make everything fun; some things are just boring by nature - you have to learn them by STUDYING.  That's how it is.

  12. Many teachers want to have fun in class, while also getting the job done, which is teaching the students. However, often fun becomes distracting. Many students began to have behavioral problems, start talking too loud and then nothing gets done. If the students could handle it (and I've had some classes who could), and they would still accomplish the task at hand, which is learning, we would love to!

  13. They are working, working, working, and have their minds on their work.
