Question:

Why do the wealthy look down on rural folks?

You know, everyone in Hollywood who think they actually know something about life! If our economy ever really fell apart and their precious money wasn't worth anything they wouldn't survive. Meanwhile the "Rednecks" would just hunt and grow more of their own food while the urban dwellers cry to their daddy government.

What they don't understand is that the Rural community is 100X more representative of America and what America should be like! Values, morals, respect and the ability/willingness to take care of yourself AND your offspring!

The country song "Country boy can survive" (title?) comes to mind.

  1. I totally see what you're saying (country girl here) but I think you might be just a tad bitter about it... Neither country or city people should look down on the other. We're all people no matter where we live, and we're all deserving of eachother's respect.

  2. very profound question............

Well I think its the same feelings for every one - urban people think they represent America rural folks think their own way. Well everywhere we can see that people want to make their voices heard. Wherever they are whatever they are

  3. What about the rural folks who happen to have earned big bucks?

Not all the wealthy live in hollywood or NYC.

  4. Wealth has little to do with it, I would call them Elite Snobs. They are found everywhere.

You are right in the fact that most of these people are like the Roman Senate in the last days of the Empire, with no clue what so ever.

  5. I agree 100%. People who are not feeling the economy crunch right now will, and when the fall they fall hard. People need to thank the farmers and all of us little people who try and keep the world going and our heads above water. I have had to learn to make do with what I have and I am happy not to have to rely on someone else to keep me going.

  6. men you needed to join them the wealthy party be one of them, will the problems go away?.there will always another hundred or thousand taking over your grievances.the motivation is how we can get out of this poverty by the next generation.can't be generations .good genes always ahead of society lots.

  7. Condeming the wealthy is a practice that, in my opinion, should be avoided (more than a few hard working poor folks have moved up to that category).Elitists, on the other hand, are fair game (no, don't go after them with your 12 gauge)...they mean well, they just don't get it.

  8. wow..im from the city and in some ways i have looked down on the country folk..ill be honest..but i was suprised after reading ur post..if our dollar became worthless, you guys would be able to make it..i also like your statements on values morals and respect..i dont want these things forced on me through government policy tho.. i also wish people in communities would take care of each other.  because they want to, not because the government forces them to

  9. That is a really good question.  I'm pretty smart, and I don't get it.  I am also surprised that people are still pouring into major cities, although there's no longer any reason to do so, because of the information age and the lack of population growth.

Certainly, as people pile into cities, they become dependent and easily manipulated, and that helps some people who have goals for the country that includes dependent, gullible people.  But how does it help Hollywood?  It makes no sense.

I'll say this much about country music; it's not a positive public relations tool.  From 1910 - 1950, it was great.  Ballads and fiddle tunes, old world stuff.  From 1950 to 2008, most of the songs were about drunk rednecks having s*x in a motel.  There is nothing country about a motel.

I'd love to write a book called "what ever happened to country music?"

  10. You generalise, not all rich look down on country people, some rich are country people. Some poor people look down on country people, some don't.

  11. Dang straight a country boy can survive! Its a certain ego boost as well though too.

Because they never have to do anything for themselves, so on the rare occasion they DO have to do something themselves it seems that much harder to them, and they consider people who do it on purpose to be lower because "that's a stupid way to do it." Also because people who do things for themselves are viewed as no better than "the help".

  12. Wealthy people look down on rural folks for the same reason we roll our eyes and say how ridiculous they are.  Everyone (whether they admit it or not) thinks they are better than everyone else.  Sad but true.

  13. Hollywood is a very closed little community. They have no grasp of reality or they wouldn't earn a living playing make-believe. Most other wealthy people either earned it through smart decisions and hard work or inherited it. Most well off people I know are muti-talented and have a very kind and generous nature.
