this is really weird. whenever i am out with my parents these guys who work at the places i go try to talk to me or flirt with me in front of my parents. i am 16.

here are 3 times i can think of

1) i was at a restaurant and the guy working there-about 25- asked me when my spring break was and kept teasing me for a minute straight about how much i ate. my mom said i think he likes you and i was so embarassed

2) i was at this all inclusive spa resort so you don't give tips at the restaurant i was eating at and this guy working there asked me where i was from and kept on talking and came back to my table about 7 times when it is not the type of restaurant where you do that. they just bring the food and leave you alone. but he kept coming back to my table and no one elses table.

3) i was at a sporting goods store and my dad and i both bought shorts and the guy there randomly asked me if i play volleyball (i dont. i play basketball)

  1. Guys will do this sometime to try to impress your parents. In a way it is a back handed compliment. They think you are cute-pretty-s**y but don't want to be too bold. If you want to flirt back do. Just don't come too hard or your parents will say something. At 16 your parents know it is bound to happen sometime. Have fun.

  2. That used to happen to me also but only from older guys. So when I was 16, it was usually guys in their early 20's or so. To them, 16 year olds look very young, so it's just a cute gesture. Kinda like when people talk to kids and their parents are there.

  3. A waiter asking a question to make everyone feel friendly is fine, but once you feel that they are over-staying their welcome it is time to turn the question back on them. The best retort is often, "why do you ask?" delivered while looking them straight in the eyes.

I would also recommend reading, "How to win friends & influence people" by Dale Carnegie, although an old book, it is a big help, really.

  4. I'm sure it's not intentional. Guys like to flirt, and sometimes they wouldn't care if their own girlfriends are around. They're not trying to embarass you in front of you parents, they just want to establish a conversation. The fact that your parents have to witness it is just one of the cruel aspects of being a teenage girl.
