why do endurance saddles only have two billets. . . i seen one at the tack store (800 dollars new) and it only had two billets, the ones on the web site i've also noticed only have two billets. . . why is this? is there a reason or is it just how they are made?

also. . . it there one type of bridle used for endurance riding? or is any type used but one prefered over the others? any websites that sell endurance bridles/equipment would be helpful too. (i have a few sites but they seem to be more towards saddles and equipment that hooks on to saddles)

thanks!

  1. Weight is the key issue and anything you do not need should be left off for an endurance saddle.

The extra billet is not used most times and adds weight.

    So they leave them off.

As for bridles many riders use one of the combo types like halter and bridle combo since they get off and walk at times.

Tucker makes some very nice ones.

  2. Here are a few websites that I'm unsure if you have, but I've had clients that I've recommended these to

    http://www.hought.com/

    http://www.runningbear.com/

    http://www.bitsandbridles.com/

  3. Endurance saddles are always built to be light, with a minimum of 'stuff', so the horse can carry it over long distances.  Extra billet straps add weight, however minimal.

As for bridles, i don't believe there is a set 'endurance bridle'.  They are all about the same weight, so as long as it fits the horse, it should not matter.
